Ohio State is set to a host a number of talented prospects this coming weekend at the Spring Game, with players coming from all over the nation to check out Urban Meyer's team in the Scarlet and Gray for the first time.
One of the players set to make the trip to Columbus is Tracy Sprinkle, a 6-4/250 defensive lineman, who will make the drive down I-71 to be in the Horseshoe. If he does come, the trip will be the second time the Elyria product is visiting Ohio State in the last three weeks, with his first trip resulting in an Ohio State offer from Urban Meyer.
Sprinkle is a rising star in the recruiting world, as he has now accumulated 14 offers, with all but two coming from BCS Conference schools. With his size and athleticism he is capable of playing either defensive end or defensive tackle, making his versatility an attractive trait for college coaches.
We got the chance to sit down with Tracy to discuss his first trip to Columbus, where things are with his recruitment, how his offer went down, and more. Join us after the jump to learn more about 2013 prospect, Elyria DL Tracy Sprinkle.
You recently were down in Columbus on a visit to Ohio State. How did it go?
It was a good visit. I got to see a spring practice, as well as sit in on the defensive line meeting with the players and Coach Vrabel. I met the other coaches as well and before I left I got to speak to Coach Meyer, who offered me a scholarship.
How long has Ohio State been recruiting you? Were you surprised they offered?
I had been to camps there before and was in touch with the old coaching staff a lot. Once Coach Meyer was hired I wasn't talking to them too often, but then about two months ago Coach Drayton started calling me again and we've been talking ever since. I didn't really expect the offer when I went down there, but I was glad to get it.
What current offers do you have besides Ohio State?
I have been offered by Michigan State, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Toledo, Syracuse, Kent State, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue, and Arizona State, in addition to OSU.
Do you have any favorites right now?
I would have to say Ohio State and Michigan State are my favorites. I like Arkansas a lot too, but I just heard what happened with Coach Petrino and am not sure what to think about that.
What visits have you taken so far? What other visits do you plan to take?
I have only been to Michigan State and Ohio State. I am planning on getting to Penn State sometime soon.
Do you plan on making a return trip to Columbus?
Yes, I am planning on going to their Spring Game next weekend. If I can't make it for some reason, I will definitely go to a camp one day this summer.
When do you plan on making a college decision?
I don't have a date set. I am going to make the decision whenever I feel a school is the best fit for me.
What are you looking for in the school of your choice?
I am looking for a school with great academics and a nice campus. I want a program that has excellent facilities, a great team, and a staff that treats it's players like family.
What are your strengths on the football field? What do you need to improve on?
My strengths are that I have a high motor and go hard every down. I also have great size and good athleticism for my size and that makes me very versatile. I need to work on my overall speed and footwork this off-season.
What position will you play at the college level?
Ohio State is recruiting me to play both tackle and end. It is really a mix with the other schools. I don't mind either way because I play both for my high school and enjoy playing both equally.
