While the voters may not feel the same, Ohio State certainly feels they belong in the National Championship game. Urban Meyer has the Buckeyes ranked second in his coaches poll ballot, though Evan Spencer feels that's a bit too low. When asked about some of the top teams, he said "I think we'd wipe the field with both of them."
Jack Mewhort was a little more reserved: "I don't want to talk about that (playing Alabama). Right now, we're just focused on beating Illinois. If we ever come to that hurdle, we'll think about that then." Meyer called Mewhort "one of the best leaders (he'd) been around" and for good reason.
Having a long weekend forced the Buckeyes to change their practice schedule, practicing today instead of Sunday, and coach Meyer was pleased with the effort today. Taylor Decker and Joshua Perry practiced today and will be good to go come Saturday, as will Curtis Grant (though he did not practice today). Perry talked about the minor injury and his development this year. Meyer said he has been impressed with Perry's improvement, though Perry expects more from himself. One thing that has stuck in Perry's mind is not wasting the physical tools he's been given, but playing "the way I know I can play."
Sadly, we have no video of Spencer's remarks. :(
