Things got wild in South Bend, Indiana, Friday night.
Police arrested a total of six Notre Dame football players in two separate incidents, five for possession of marijuana and a handgun and another for preliminary felony charges of battery to law enforcement.
Senior cornerback Devin Butler faces the battery charges, while senior safety Max Redfield, sophomore running back Dexter Williams, sophomore linebacker Te’von Coney, sophomore cornerback Ashton White and freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson face the weed charges. Additionally, Redfield, Stepherson and Williams face a charge for possessing a handgun without a license.
From The Observer:
The 2007 Ford Focus, driven by White, was pulled over for a speeding violation and an improper taillight when State Trooper Ben Reason allegedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car, an Indiana State Police press release said. From there, a narcotics dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle, and in the subsequent search, officers allegedly found marijuana and a loaded handgun. The Indiana State Police was assisted by officers from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.
The arrests came just a few hours before senior cornerback Devin Butler was arrested in South Bend in an unrelated incident.
Butler was arrested outside the Linebacker Lounge early Saturday morning on early charges of resisting a police officer and battery against a police officer.
Notre Dame Vice President for public affairs and communications Paul Browne said any student arrested and facing a felony charge will be dismissed from the university.
This also (obviously) doesn't seem like a great situation from a football standpoint:
From a football perspective, seems likely Notre Dame will start a true freshman and a junior coming off two ACL tears at safety at Texas.

Safe to say Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had a rough Saturday morning.
Kelly released a strongly worded statement Sunday afternoon to the media in which he announced the dismissal of Redfield and suspension of Butler. The four other players involved will face internal discipline:
