Rap artist, bandage salesman and anti-heat stroke activist Nelly (Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr.) was born today in 1974 in Austin, Texas. He moved to St. Louis as a kid and formed the group St. Lunatics while in high school. His first album, “Country Grammar”, debuted at #3 in 2000 and went on to sell over nine million copies.
His second album, “Nellyville”, debuted at #1 and sold over six million copies. The top single from that album, “Hot in Herre”, won a Grammy. He is still releasing music and is doing some acting as well. His later music has not had the same success as his first two albums but I doubt he’s complaining.
