TALE OF THE TAPE: RECRUITING NUMBERS

Below you will find two charts comparing the recruiting rankings of Ohio State's and Northern Illinois' starters on both sides of the ball. These rankings are from 247sports.com and were based on the players' skill coming out of high school. The rankings do not reflect the development of the players in college. It is still fun to look at the numbers and compare.

If you are looking for a comparison of the height and weight of the players click on the Recruiting Recon links at the bottom of this article.

Slobs
The Slobs have something to prove this week.
THREE THINGS OHIO STATE'S OFFENSE VS. NIU'S DEFENSE
  • The Slobs have a distinct advantage over NIU's defensive front. The slobs have an average comp. rating of .896 compared to NIU's .738. Factor in last week's poor performance and the Slobs will be ready to plow the Huskies.
  • I like Ezekiel Elliott against Northern Illinois' front seven or eight. Elliott has lived up to (surpassed?) his .969 rating. With motivated Slobs in front of him, Elliott should have another game of at least 100 yards rushing.
  • NIU's secondary has an average comp. rating of .728. UNLV and Murray State put up big numbers against the Huskies. If Ohio State is able to find a rhythm on offense the Buckeyes should have a big day through the ground and air.

Conley and the secondary could be tested by the Huskies.

THREE THINGS NIU'S OFFENSE AGAINST OHIO STATE'S DEFENSE
  • QB Drew Hare has put up very good numbers this season and for his career. Hare has passed for 3,193 yards 26 TDs and only 2 interceptions. Not only does he have a great TD/INT ratio, but Hare is also very accurate. This season he is 50/64 (.781) on pass attempts. Saturday, Hare will face a secondary that has an average comp. rating of .943. Hare will make some plays, but Ohio State's talent should win out in the end.
  • Joel Bouagnon has averaged 5.5 yards per carry for his career. If Hare and the passing game cannot soften the middle of Ohio State's defense Bouagnon will have a hard time getting close to his yards per carry average. If the Huskies find success throwing the ball Bouagnon could bust a couple of big runs.
  • Northern Illinois' offensive line has a .779 comp. rating average. Ohio State's defensive line has a .957 comp. rating average. If the Huskies' line is unable to keep Bosa and company out of the backfield Drew Hare could be in for a long game. Then again, Ohio State's defense could make it a short game for him.
