Ohio State junior defensive end Jalyn Holmes announced Wednesday night he would be returning to the Buckeyes for his senior season. Holmes posted the news on his Instagram account.
This hardly comes as a surprise, of course, but it's important to keep in mind the 6-foot-5, 274-pound Holmes certainly has the prototypical size for the next level. He certainly can benefit from another year at Ohio State, however, and with Tyquan Lewis potentially declaring for the NFL Draft, there's a very good shot Holmes earns a starting spot next season opposite Sam Hubbard.
As the Buckeyes' third defensive end this season, Holmes recorded 33 tackles, a pair of sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. Holmes, Hubbard, Lewis and Nick Bosa made up Ohio State's famed 'Rushmen' package, a look the Buckeyes utilized often on third downs.
Holmes joins Hubbard, offensive lineman Billy Price and quarterback J.T. Barrett as players who have officially announced their returns to Ohio State next season. Safety Malik Hooker, cornerback Gareon Conley and linebacker Raekwon McMillan have already announced their intentions to forgo eligibility and head to the NFL.
