Ohio State missed out on its top remaining 2017 target Wednesday morning as four-star guard M.J. Walker announced his commitment to Florida State.
Walker — a McDonald's All-American from Jonesboro, Georgia — picked the Seminoles over the Buckeyes, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and UCLA.
Ohio State was never really a serious candidate for Walker until he took an official visit to Columbus in early May. However, in the end, the Seminoles were a longtime contender in his recruitment and they landed the nation's 26th-ranked prospect.
The Buckeyes also recently missed out on four-star guard Mark Smith in the 2017 class as well as Howard graduate transfer James Daniel III. Smith picked Illinois while Daniel opted to play his final season at Tennessee.
Ohio State did get some good news earlier Wednesday when Kam Williams announced he was returning to school for his fifth season. The Buckeyes have three scholarship guards on their roster in Williams, C.J. Jackson and incoming freshman Braxton Beverly.
Ohio State has two incoming freshmen in its 2017 class in Beverly and four-star center Kaleb Wesson.
