Thompson declared for the NBA Draft back on March 14. As expected, his name appeared on the NBA Draft early entree list, which was released Tuesday. Somewhat surprisingly, Thompson's college teammate, Kam Williams, was also on the list.
Thompson left the door open for a possible return to Ohio State for his final season because he did not sign with an agent. That changed Tuesday evening. Williams has not yet done the same and has until May 24 to withdraw his name and retain his final year of collegiate eligibility.
Thompson, who transferred to Ohio State from Virginia Tech, played two seasons for the Buckeyes. He averaged 10.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as he was one of the most improved players in the Big Ten.
Thompson's official departure leaves Ohio State a bit thin at the center position. David Bell opted to transfer following the season so the only big men currently on the Buckeyes' roster are sophomore Micah Potter and incoming freshman Kaleb Wesson.
