Ohio State basketball is considering the possibility of re-using St. John Arena for select basketball games in the future, according to an interview 97.1 The Fan conducted Thursday morning with head basketball coach Chris Holtmann.
“It’s already been brought up,” Holtmann said. “People have brought it up to me. I’ve brought it up. There are some issues with it that make it challenging and difficult, but I will continue to keep that on the front burner. I don’t have much control over this year’s schedule.
"Playing at St. John’s has been certainly something that’s come up and I’ve considered, whether it’s an exhibition or an early non-conference game. I’ll continue to broach the subject and see if we can make some progress on it.”
Whether or not the team ever plays game within the confines of St. John again, the consideration of Holtmann and those close to the program are likely to win over more of the ole' Buckeye basketball faithful.
Also considering that Ohio State scheduled a home-and-home with Cincinnati to kick off the 2018-19 season, the prospect of playing select games at St. John Arena have become a lot more real.
With the discussion of playing future games at St. John, the definite of the home-and-home with Cincinnati beginning next fall (next year's home opener, anyone?), and the hypothetical of playing an Ohio collegiate basketball classic in the future, there's a lot be excited about in regards to the Ohio State basketball program.
