Tyjon Lindsey is the country's third-ranked 2017 wide receiver, one of the most explosive athletes in the country and is quickly becoming a top target for the Buckeyes despite only receiving his offer two weeks ago. While the Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) five-star is just learning about Ohio State and just beginning to establish relationships with the Buckeyes, he says people shouldn't count them out.
"I had a chance to talk with (Zach) Smith a few days ago," Lindsey told 11W. "We were just talking about how our days were, what we're doing this week and how my team is preparing for Chandler in week one."
Smith, the Buckeyes energetic wide receiver coach, has quickly made a connection with the 5-foot-9, 165-pound Lindsey.
"It helps that he's younger," the five-star said of Smith. "I love talking to him, honestly. He's a cool coach and I feel like I can tell him anything; he's understanding, out-going and cool as heck. We connect a lot."
The recent speculation is that Lindsey is likely to follow Tate Martell, his five-star quarterback and Bishop Gorman, to Texas A&M. The pair grew up together in California and when Lindsey's family moved to Ohio, where his mother is from, he actually moved in with the Martells. The impact on his life, and his recruitment, is obvious and worth noting, but as for following the quarterback to College Station? It's not a sure thing.
"Tate is my brother, yes," Lindsey said of Martell. "I support everything he does. He'd support me whether I go with him or not; I love him dearly. This is my time and my decision and I just want to do something I feel is best for me. We got close because my mother moved to Ohio and I didn't want to leave California so Tate's parents, Al and Tafi Martell, took me in after my 8th grade year and I've been living with them ever since."
If it's not Texas A&M, it's Oregon or USC that gets thrown around with Lindsey but he insists that the Buckeyes, an offer he worked hard to make happen this summer, shouldn't be overlooked.
"I notice that a lot of people don't include Ohio State when they talk about my top schools," Lindsey concluded. "That makes me laugh because they're going to be in my top group and I really need to make a visit there."
