WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Brendon White, an Ohio State commit in the 2017 class, is somewhat of a jack of all trades.

For instance, the position he will play for the Buckeyes is not set in stone just yet. That’s between wide receiver or outside linebacker. The spot he’ll play this fall for his senior season at Olentangy Liberty High School? Well, it’s neither of those.

White will play quarterback for the Patriots.

When it comes to the world of recruiting, White might give a new definition to the term ‘athlete.’

“It’s not tough at all,” White said at The Opening’s regional camp last weekend in Columbus. “Since I’m committed and everything, I’m all in with my football team. Whatever they need to win, I’m going to do that.

“Me and my coach had a talk after the season about me playing quarterback and if that was going to help us and with our schedule we have now that’ll help a lot. I’m all in for the Liberty Patriots and hopefully I can do well at the quarterback position and help us go deep into the playoffs.”

By playing quarterback in the fall, White obviously won’t have next football season to hone his wide receiver skills. He also said that as of right now he’s not playing defense for his high school team — the quarterback rarely does — though that could change in the future.

So White uses events like Saturday’s camp to work on his craft. He has been working out at wide receiver for the majority of the offseason — and he says that’s the position he prefers to play — but he’s more than willing to move over and give outside linebacker a shot when he gets to Ohio State if need be.

“I do prefer receiver, but at the end of the day I’m going to do whatever gets me on the field,” he said. “But right now I’m just going to be an athlete and enjoy the ride and when I get there they’ll have a position for me set and ready to go.”

There was little doubt White would end up a Buckeye. He is the son of former Ohio State defensive back William White and made it very clear throughout his recruiting process that if the Buckeyes offered, that’s where he would wind up playing college football.

The offer finally came Sept. 30, 2015 and it was pretty much a done deal from there.

“It was a dream come true. Ever since I was a little kid growing up going to Ohio State games with my family I always wanted to be a Buckeye,” White said. “When I got that call saying they offered me I shed some tears because that was my dream come true and that’s why I committed two days after that.”

Currently rated as a four-star recruit and the nation’s 123rd-ranked player, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, White is becoming more of a national name as opposed to one just known around the Columbus area. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder is actually listed as the 13th-ranked safety in the country on 247Sports because, again, he’s an athlete.

And while it still might be unsure how exactly he fits into the picture at Ohio State, and it’s still a mystery what position he will play, there was little doubt about what school he would end up at when things were all said and done.

“I’m excited when I get there to start my journey as a Buckeye,” White said.
