While quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends have been on the field in Beaverton, Oregon for practice since Wednesday, actual competition at The Opening — for all positions — kicked off Friday. Over 150 of the nation's top high school football prospects gathered at the Nike headquarters for a morning of testing followed by an afternoon filled with positional drills.
Ohio State commits and targets certainly made their presence felt during the morning portion. JK Dobbins, a 2017 running back committed to the Buckeyes, took home the top prize as the Nike+ Football Ratings Champion. Dobbins posted a 4.45 40-yard dash, 43.1-inch vertical jump and a 4.09 20-yard shuttle — all impressive marks — to take home the title. Afterward, the four-star prospect accepted an invitation to the Army All-American Bowl, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.
Two of Ohio State's top 2017 targets finished second and third, respectively, in the morning testing. Five-star safety Jeffrey Okudah posted a 4.49 40-yard dash, 41.6-inch vertical and a 4.03 20-yard shuttle to take second; five-star running back Cam Akers was third with a 4.41 40, 38.6-inch vertical and 4.18 shuttle.
Here are some additional reported 40-yard dash times from other Ohio State commits and targets from Friday at The Opening from those on hand:
PLAYER | POS. | 40 TIME |
---|---|---|
Darnay Holmes | CB | 4.32 |
Trevon Grimes | WR | 4.46 |
Anthony Hines | LB | 4.51 |
