Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Select '17 have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

NO FLY ZONE OVER CINCINNATI

In a battle of two possible future Buckeyes, Amir Riep and Colerain got the best of Jackson Carman and Fairfield, 28-0, on Friday night.

"We knew there were two great defenses," Colerain coach Tom Bolden told the local ABC affiliate. "It was billed up to what it was, and [Fairfield] has got a tremendous defense, and it was a battle."

Colerain held Fairfield to 147 yards of total offense, including just 54 on the ground on 30 carries. When the Indians tried to throw the ball against the Cardinals, Riep was there to make them pay with his first interception of the season.

The Ohio State cornerback commit has been severely hampered by a hamstring injury this season, missing 3 games after being hurt in Week 2 against St. Xavier.

"No disrespect to Fairfield, but you clearly saw who the No. 1 defense was," Bolden said. "Our kids fly around, they get after it and they play with some vicious intentions. We were getting after it. It got a little chippy at times but that’s what football is all about. Hats off to coach Krause and Fairfield, they’ve got a lot of great players."

That includes Carman, an offensive tackle who is considered the top overall player in the state for the Class of 2018. He hasn't yet decided where he'll play his college ball, but Ohio State is considered the heavy favorite to land the 6-foot-6, 290-pounder.

STRAIGHTENING THINGS OUT

Ann Arbor, Michigan, Pioneer has had a rough go of it this season. The Pioneers were expected to be one of the top teams in the Southeastern Conference his season after making it to the district finals last year, but an injury to running back and linebacker Antjuan Simmons, an Ohio State commit, has played a significant role in their 2-6 start.

"[I've had] a bad ankle sprain since Week 1, that's why I haven't been playing much offense," Simmons told Eleven Warriors.

Finally back to 100 percent healthy on Friday nights, the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder led Pioneer to a 26-12 Homecoming win over Lincoln, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown. Simmons would have topped 200 yards and scored three times if it weren't for holding penalties that negated runs of 70 and 5 yards.

"It meant a lot, especially with being my first true game being [healthy] and it being homecoming," he said. "Our junior running back [Dexter Ferrell] has been doing a helluva a job toting the rock, so having a 1-2 punch has taken a lot of pressure off of my shoulders."
