Before descending upon Columbus, the members of Select '17 have one final shot at glory under the Friday night lights.

MONEY MARTELL

Las Vegas, Nevada, Bishop Gorman rolled to its 51st-consecutive win on Thursday night, knocking off Palo Verde, 59-0, in the opening round of the state playoffs.

The Gaels were led by Ohio State quarterback commit Tate Martell, who rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns, including a 70-yard scamper down the sidelines - hurdling a defender along the way. He also added 93 yards and a score through the air.

Martell eclipsed 1,000 yards on the ground this season in the win.

The defense, led by defensive tackle commit Haskell Garrett and safety target Bubba Bolden, posted its fourth shutout in the last five games. Garrett added three tackles and Bolden had an interception for Gorman, which has outscored its last five opponents 250-7.

DREAMS CRUSHED

When the matchup was set, Colerain head coach Tom Bolden said, "It wouldn't be high school playoffs without Colerain and St. X getting after it."

Friday night's game was certainly one for the ages, as St. Xavier shocked undefeated and 14th-ranked Colerain, 29-23, in overtime. The Bombers scored 16 unanswered points in the final 13 minutes to force overtime, and scored the game-winner on their first play from scrimmage in the extra period.

After Colerain went three-and-out and missed a 34-yard field goal, St. Xavier struck quickly with a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Ohio State cornerback commit Amir Riep forced a fumble in the third quarter, leading to a 27-yard field goal that put Colerain up 23-7. The Cardinals, as noted, were shutout from there.

ROUND TWO

In a rematch of last week's regular-season finale, Hyattsville, Maryland, DeMatha Catholic beat Good Counsel, 28-13, to advance to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship.

Quarterback Beau English threw three touchdown passes, but the Stags led by only one score late. With 3:30 left on the clock and Good Counsel driving, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young picked up a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown to seal the win.
