With two commitments in the last week, Ohio State has now surpassed Miami for the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, a combination of the four premier national recruiting services: ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247Sports.
The Hurricanes have sat atop the rankings since early February, but the Buckeyes surged into the lead this afternoon thanks to a pledge from two-way Brooklyn lineman Matthew Jones.
Ohio State has only 14 commits compared to Miami's 17, so the quality — not quantity — is what sets the former apart. Quarterback Emory Jones, defensive tackle Taron Vincent and defensive end Brenton Cox are all considered five-star pickups for the Buckeyes, while running back Lorenzo Lingard is the only future Hurricane to hold that honor.
National Signing Day is Feb. 8.
