Noah Spence, whose future at Ohio State remains in jeopardy after failing another drug test, practiced with the team Wednesday afternoon.
“He actually practiced today, he’s doing things to get healthy," head coach Urban Meyer said. "But he’s also — you know — we’re supporting him.”
Spence, who was suspended for a 66-0 blowout of Kent State Saturday, failed a drug test, sources told Eleven Warriors last week.
The All-Big Ten junior defensive end was supposed to make an anticipated return against the Golden Flashes after serving a three-game suspension for testing positive for ecstasy prior to the Big Ten Championship game last December.
After the game, Meyer likened the news of Spence's absence to a "sucker punch" and said his status with the team was "undefined."
"I don't know much other than he was declared he couldn't play for this weekend," Meyer said, "and what the future holds for him, I don't know."
Spence's parents told the Columbus Dispatch their son has a "medical illness" and will seek appropriate treatment. Spence will start a drug rehabilitation program, according to ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy.
