Jim Tressel always said, "November is for contenders." And well, it's November and Ohio State is in the hunt for the inaugural College Football Playoff. After nearly dropping a 50-cent piece on Mark Dantonio and vaunted defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi — coupled with a couple of key losses in front of them — the Buckeyes moved into the top ten.
Ohio State came-in at No. 7 in the Coaches Poll, up from No. 11 last week. In the AP Top 25, Ohio State is viewed as the eighth best team in the country, up from last week's No. 13 ranking.
In other favorable news: MSU maintained its Top 15 status; In the Coaches Poll, the Spartans fell from No. 6 to No. 12. In the AP, Michigan State was demoted from No. 7 to No. 12.
On top of that, likely Big Ten title game foe Nebraska checked-in at No. 11 in both polls. Assuming Nebraska wins out until it faces Ohio State, it will — per the usual #chaos, of course — offer Ohio State another primetime game against Top 10 competition.
Wisconsin is the only other ranked Big Ten team, coming in at No. 22 in the Coaches and in the AP Top 25.
Nationally, the SEC leads the way with four teams in the top ten of both polls.
