Fantasy football playoffs are approaching quickly and the hottest waiver wire pickup this week may just be Daniel "Boom" Herron.
Indianapolis placed starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw on injured reserve after he fractured his fibula in their week 11 game against New England. That left two running backs on the Colts' active roster – Trent Richardson and Herron.
Naturally, the team wanted to look outside the organization for another back. An insane rumor circulated about signing Ray Rice, but the Colts have enough PR issues as it is, thanks to their owner.
Only one potential move really made sense: the Browns just waived Ben Tate and Indianapolis runs a zone blocking scheme he would be comfortable with. Unfortunately, the Vikings put in a claim for him, leaving the Colts with nowhere else to turn but within.
Boom Herron announced with the starting lineup. Trent Richardson was sick earlier this week.

In his first career NFL start, Herron lost a fumble inside his own 10 yard line. Otherwise, he had a solid stat line: 12 carries, 65 yards and he led the team in receptions with five.
This Week in Praising Corey Linsley
It all began with his appearance on the Eleven Dubcast. Now, Corey Linsley's an all-pro caliber center.
Aaron Rodgers hopped on the bandwagon and mentioned "campaigning" for Linsley's Pro Bowl candidacy, shortly after Linsley's appearance. Linsley followed that up by destroying the chill out of Cedric Thornton on national television.
The dinosaurs that work for traditional print media outlets have finally caught up. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writer Bob McGinn consulted several football minds, all of whom had something nice to say about Linsley.
"I like him better than any center Green Bay has had in recent years," an NFC team executive told McGinn. "There's a lot of trash in this league. I would think he's top 10, maybe 10 or 12."
Play of the Week
Carlos Hyde continues to make the most out of the few touches he gets per game – kickoff returns notwithstanding. Sunday, Hyde sealed a victory against Washington with his four yard, game-winning touchdown carry.
