Tony Alford, Ohio State’s new running backs coach, will make $400,000 a year, according to a preliminary contract obtained by Eleven Warriors Thursday afternoon.
Alford, who served as an assistant at Notre Dame for six seasons, was officially hired Tuesday.
It’s unknown what Alford was paid with the Fighting Irish, which is a private university and thus not subject to the same public records laws as Ohio State and other public schools.
Alford replaces Stan Drayton, who left for the NFL’s Chicago Bears last week after four seasons in Columbus. Alford coached with fellow assistants Ed Warinner and Tim Hinton at Notre Dame in 2010 and 2011 and coached with Chris Ash for five seasons (2002-2006) at Iowa State.
The Buckeyes, which captured the first-ever College Football Playoff national championship in January open spring practice next month.
