This time last year, Raekwon McMillan was former five-star LB prospect turned early enrollee. Though Raekwon never fully supplanted Curtis Grant at MLB in 2014, the talented Georgian made his mark; he finished with 54 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and one pick-6.
So while the 2015 defense won't be without its question marks... Raekwon McMillan won't be one of them.
From Michael Carvell of AJC.com's interview of Urban Meyer:
Last year, you signed the top linebacker out of Georgia, Liberty County’s Raekwon McMillan. How is his development coming along after his freshman year?
“He’s aces, man. He’s an even better person leading than a player, and he’s a hell of a player. So that tells you what we got in that one. He’s a guy that shows up every day (in football), and he does great in the classroom and in the community. He should be a team captain one day at Ohio State.”
So he’s living up to the recruiting hype?
“Yes. We bought into the hype when we recruited him. He’s a little better than (he was being hyped). He has got all the intangibles that you hope to get with a player. We got them with this guy.”
As a fan of Ohio State, it's awesome to know that a five-star prospect is even better than his hype. If I were a fan of any other team, that would terrify me.
Urban touches on some other things (spoiler: national titles are good for recruiting), but honestly, the full piece is worth checking out simply because it features a pic of McMillan holding a flaming log over his head.
