PublicPolicyPolling.com released some "Ohio Odds and Ends" polling numbers today, and Cardale Jones is the people's pick to start behind center for the Buckeyes.
Of those Ohioans polled, 33 percent would choose Cardale Jones to start at quarterback for Ohio State; 23 percent would choose Braxton Miller, and 14 percent would name J.T. Barrett the starter. (I assume this means 30 percent of Ohioans are content with any of the three, which is a sensible take.)
Fifty-one percent of Ohioans identify as Ohio State fans. Of those fans, 85 percent approve of Urban Meyer's performance, which the pollsters note is one of the highest approval ratings ever measured for a coach. Probably even more amazing is two percent of Buckeye fans "disapprove" of Urban Meyer's performance.
If Urban continues his industrious pace, he will soon pass Woody Hayes as the most popular coach in Buckeye history.
Thirty-five percent of Buckeye fans say Woody Hayes is Ohio State's best coach, while 30 percent say Meyer, 18 percent say Jim Tressel, one percent say John Cooper, and one percent voted for Earle Bruce.
Among other notable Ohio polling numbers:
- Ohioans hate Michigan. Thirty percent had a negative opinion of its northern neighbor, compared to only 20 percent that held the same view of Kentucky. Indiana (17 percent), West Virginia (16 percent), and Pennsylvania (10 percent) rounded out the list.
- 59 percent of Ohioans now have a favorable opinion of LeBron James, up from 15 percent in 2012.
- Only 25 percent of Browns fans want Johnny Manziel to be their starting quarterback.
- 53 percent of Ohioans see Pete Rose in a favorable light.
