A one time Ohio State signee could be headed back to his home state.
Mirko Jurkovic Jr., a three-star offensive lineman out of IMG Academy in Florida who could not enroll in Columbus due to an academic issue, could be headed to South Bend, Ind., and Notre Dame, Pete Sampson of IrishIllustrated.com reported Thursday.
According to Sampson, Notre Dame's interest in the one-time Buckeye signee and Notre Dame legacy (his father, Mirko Jurkovic Jr., played on the 1988 Irish national title team) is enough that Jurkovic Jr.'s tried upping his test scores in order to make the cut for admission.
Jurkovic Jr. played high school football at St. Joe High School, which is just one mile from Notre Dame's campus, prior to enrolling at IMG. Though he received offers from multiple Big Ten institutions — including Nebraska, who he committed to before flipping to Ohio State — the Irish never offered Jurkovic Jr. a scholarship.
If Jurkovic Jr. does come on board in South Bend, Notre Dame would enter fall training camp with 88 scholarship players, barring any other roster attrition. The NCAA limit is 85 scholarships for Division I college football.
