J.T. Barrett is Ohio State’s starting quarterback "unless he does not have a good week of practice," Urban Meyer said Monday at his weekly press conference.
Barrett would replace Cardale Jones, who started last week in Ohio State’s 28-14 win over Minnesota.
Barrett had earned the starting job prior to that win over the Gophers, but missed the game because of a one-game suspension for an OVI. In his place, Jones was 12-for-22 passing for 187 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the ball 12 times for 65 yards and an additional score.
Jones started the first seven games of the season for the third-ranked Buckeyes before giving way to Barrett after the Penn State game. In his lone start of the season, a 49-7 rout of Rutgers, Barrett accounted for 324 total yards and five touchdowns.
Barrett has 472 passing yards and 329 rushing yards so far this season. He has accounted for 14 total touchdowns.
Ohio State faces Illinois at noon on Saturday.
