We knew Ezekiel Elliott needed 170 yards against Illinois to surpass Tim Spencer for third all-time in career rushing yards at Ohio State.
Rank | Player | Years | Yards |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Archie Griffin | 1972-1975 | 5,589 |
2 | Eddie George | 1992-1995 | 3,768 |
3 | Ezekiel Elliott | 2013— | 3,565 |
4 | Tim Spencer | 1979-1982 | 3,553 |
5 | Beanie Wells | 2006-2008 | 3,382 |
It took until the fourth quarter against Illinois, but Elliott totaled 170 yards early in the fourth quarter to sit behind just Heisman winners Eddie George and Archie Griffin on the all-time career rushing yards list at Ohio State.
Elliott finished with 181 yards on 27 carries as Ohio State pulled away from Illinois to win their 10th game of the season, 28–3.
Elliott still has a way to go to sit atop this list as the program's all-time leading rusher. He will certainly need to return for a senior year to do it. However, Ohio State has anywhere between three games to six games remaining this season. Surpassing Eddie George by season's end is not out the question.
Elliott's place among the career rushing yard leaders at Ohio State will command attention, but Elliott made more history this game as well. He tied Eddie George for career games with over 100 rushing yards at Ohio State.

Further, his second touchdown of the day tied him for fifth all-time in rushing touchdowns at Ohio State.
That's Ezekiel Elliott's 36th career rushing TD, tied for 5th all-time in Ohio State history!
