Urban Meyer knew back in January his 2016 team would feature a plethora of unproven talent.
He decided he wanted to install his veteran leadership as early as possible in the process, so the bloated corpse of Notre Dame had barely cooled before he christened quarterback J.T. Barrett, center Pat Elflein, and middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan as his 2016 captains.
Sunday, at Ohio State's annual media days, the official roster confirmed those three will retain the captaincy heading into the season.
Perhaps more interesting, however, is no other Buckeye earned the honor over spring, summer, and fall workouts.
The 2016 team will feature the fewest amount of captains in Meyer's time in Columbus.
A breakdown of the years:
YEAR | NUMBER OF CAPTAINS |
---|---|
2012 | 5 |
2013 | 5 |
2014 | 5 |
2015 | 6 |
2016 | 3 |
