There were a lot of stars in Ohio State's 58-0 pasting of Rutgers in the Horseshoe Saturday, but none bigger than quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Barrett threw for four touchdowns, notably the 16-yard strike to Marcus Baugh that gave him 58 career touchdown pass – one more than the school's previous record-holder, Bobby Hoying.
“You guys who know Ohio State history – this is something. No. 1 in the books,” Meyer said to his team in the postgame locker room.
“He's only had 21 starts. He's averaging three touchdown passes per game. He's the No. 1 quarterback in touchdown passes in the history of Ohio State.”
After embracing his coach, Barrett addressed his teammates.
“So, young guys, we just have to keep on pushing. You're going to have your breakthrough. Everyone is going to have their ‘pay day’ that coach talks about. You just have to keep on grinding – stay the course.
“I wouldn't be able to do this without the cats in here, man, and the cats that came before us in past years. I just love all ya'll boys. Go Bucks.”
