Bruce Feldman of foxsports.com reported last week Oregon considered Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Greg Schiano for its head coaching vacancy.
Though it would've been a curious fit and the antithesis of past offensive-minded hires, Brett McMurphy of ESPN reported Oregon interviewed Schiano last week in New York while the Ohio State assistant recruited the territory.
The Ducks, however, went in another direction Wednesday morning, when they hired South Florida's Willie Taggart, thus killing any speculation of Schiano moving west.
But one hiring creates another vacancy. And once again, Schiano's name is in the mix.

Though it's a step down from Oregon, USF would be a better fit for Schiano, who coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and recruited the area during collegiate coaching stints with Ohio State, Rutgers, and Miami.
There's also the "two-year agreement" to which Urban Meyer makes his assistants agree before their hiring. But Schiano and Meyer go way back, and so far there's been no indication he wouldn't be granted special status to leave after a one-year stint.
Only time will tell.
