The Buckeyes and Hoosiers are set to meet on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, the schools announced. It was originally scheduled for Sept. 2. Kickoff time and television network remains unknown.
Ohio State hosts Oklahoma on Sept. 9, 2017.
The last time Ohio State opened a season on Thursday was in 2010 against Marshall, though that 45-7 victory was vacated by the NCAA due to sanctions. The previous time came in 1997 when the Buckeyes beat Wyoming 24-10 as part of the first-ever BCA Classic.
It is set to be the seventh time ever Ohio State kicked off its season on a day other than Saturday. The most recent came in the 2015 season, when the Buckeyes won at Virginia Tech 42-24 on Labor Day night.
The matchup with the Hoosiers is also set to be the first time in 41 years Ohio State opens against a Big Ten opponent. The Buckeyes beat Michigan State 49-21 in 1976 and have never lost an opener when facing a conference foe, including a 5-0 mark against Indiana.
