In a surprise to few, Joey Bosa took home the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year award Saturday night at the NFL's year-end awards show in Houston.
Voting for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year:
— Mark Long (@APMarkLong) February 5, 2017
1. Joey Bosa, DE, SD, 37 votes
2. Jalen Ramsey, DB, Jax, 10
3. Deion Jones, LB, ATL, 3
Bosa had a banner year in his rookie season, totaling 10.5 sacks in just 12 games played. His season was cut short due to contract conflicts with the San Diego Chargers, but once he was able to get on the field, he was consistently one of the best defensive players in the league.
Remarkably, Bosa racked up six of those sacks in his first five games in the NFL, and remained a force until the end of the season. He was especially effective in a late-season game against the Falcons, sacking Matt Ryan twice and helping the Chargers to a 33-30 overtime win.
Congrats to Joey Bosa, who is shrugging his way towards being the best of the NFL.
