When you are mostly responsible for exporting four first-round NFL Draft picks in as many years, a significant payday is likely coming. Kerry Coombs is experiencing that firsthand at Ohio State.

The program's cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator is set to earn $500,000 in base salary as part of a new 1-year deal he signed for the 2017 season, according to the contract obtained by Eleven Warriors on Wednesday. Coombs's new salary is $75,000 more than his old one, understandable after seeing Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley come off the board among the first 32 picks of the NFL Draft the last four years.
Coombs's new deal expires on Jan. 31, 2018. It is renewable upon an offer from an Ohio State and acceptance by the coach.
Coombs is expected to take on more of a role of Ohio State's defense this fall after the departure of Luke Fickell to Cincinnati. He is set to team up with Greg Schiano to coordinate the defense.
Like the other coaches at Ohio State, Coombs has additional incentives included in his contract. They are:
- An 8.5 percent base salary supplemental compensation for winning the Big Ten East Division at the coach's then-current rate.
- A 4.25 percent base salary supplemental compensation for winning the Big Ten Championship at the coach's then-current rate.
- Participation in a College Football Playoff postseason game: 17 percent base salary additional compensation at the coach's then-current rate.
- Participation in non-College Football Playoff postseason game and 9-win season: 4.25 percent of base salary bonus at the coach's then-current rate.
- Participation in semifinals (but not finals) of College Football Playoff: 21.25 percent base salary additional compensation at the coach's then-current rate.
- If Ohio State wins the CFP semifinal, Coombs is not entitled to his 21.25 percent additional base salary compensation. Instead, he receives an additional 25.5 percent base salary compensation at the coach's then-current rate.
- A car loan of $600 per month.
- Six football season tickets and two men's basketball season tickets, free of charge.
