Oh, the message boards were alive and unwell last Friday.
As you may have heard or even witnessed yourself, Ohio State blasted Clemson in a 49-28 Sugar Bowl rout in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
The victory punched the ticket for your Buckeyes to face off against Alabama in the national title next Monday.
Justin Fields and Co. were brilliant against the Tigers. Ohio State's quarterback outdueled the presumptive No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, amassing 427 yards of total offense with an impressive six touchdown throws. Trey Sermon also ran wild once again, piling up 254 yards of total offense, highlighted by a 32-yard touchdown run.
Clemson, led by a man in Dabo Swinney who has become something like a cartoon villain to Ohio State fans, spent the better part of Friday evening getting shoved into an undersized Superdome trash can.
It was a beautiful sight to see, but there were two fanbases in particular who had very bad nights.
Those two, of course, were the ones who cheer for Clemson and Michigan on Saturdays. The two programs are worlds apart in so many aspects, but for one perfect night, they were forged together in a fog of misery.
I feel it's my duty to share that misery with you.
Clemson Sadness
Tigers fans commented through their feelings on the live game thread of SB Nation's Skakin' The Southland.
ND sure stunk today...
… Alabama is going to be tough… we will need our defense to stop them… something nobody has done all year…
Even before the game kicked off, some Clemson fans weren't even entertaining the possibility of losing to Ohio State. Their confidence only grew after Clemson's game-opening touchdown drive.
Pour it on 'em boys!!!!!
Damn that was beautiful
There's the attacking start we needed
If Powell and Rodgers can beat their CBs like that
Then game is over
Yes, I'm in total agreement with this commenter.
Yeah, I’m starting to understand why Dabo is so relaxed.
Time to see how our D matches up.
But after an Ohio State three-and-out, Fields found his rhythm and the mood began to sour.
not getting set in time
f***
The reaction to Trey Sermon's 32-yard touchdown wasn't received appropriately.
We will adjust and if they have to do that to beat us
It’s gonna be a long night for them
I'ma just leave this here.
Trey Sermon tonight:

This just might be a fun game guys
After the two teams traded touchdowns to make it 14-14, this commenter was looking forward to the shootout. They came back shortly after halftime to update said post.
I would like to revise this statement...
Well the defense is not stopping any body tonight.
Unless we’ve got a miracle [up] our sleeves it’s gonna be a long night
Lmao. We look f****** stupid out there right now
Can't tackle in space, can't cover for f***
And the line is getting held every play, this is going to be a long night if we can’t grind out some scoring drives and keep the ball away
Fields just got Skalskied!!
Y'all, prepare yourself for some very satisfying comments from Clemson fans about targeting.
Was going in with the shoulder. Such BS.
And now Skalski is gone
It’s over. Good night
Eh it is borderline.
Because how much of forcible contact was just 2 guys going full speed. That’s the piece here I don’t like because there was no other indicator of targetting.
Concur. It wasn't 'crown of the helmet' until Fields spun a bit. Initial impact was the shoulder.
Dude f*** football nowadays
That was a good hit and idgaf if you disagree
That targeting call was bulls***. That rule has really affected the game in a bad way.
You don't say.
There’s NO WAY you can compare Skalski’s hit to Wade’s hit last year.
Please, Clemson fans, STOP! My cup can only hold so many of your tears.
Next year, Dabo should just stfu
and put that energy towards motivating our own boys.
The rare good idea I saw in here.
Ryan Day owns VB. Nothing more.
You can’t tell me OSU’s not much fresher than Clemson
All the BS apologists saying it was a disadvantage that they only played 6 games. Anyone who’s played knows that’s crap.
Bama will beat the crap out of Ohio State
Too bad we couldn’t have played OSU as our 7th game but we are softening them up for the Tide.
Embarrassing
Memories of WV Orange bowl where the whole team just collectively said "eh, screw it".
Maybe Dabo will learn to keep his f****** mouth shut
I hope OSU runs it up
Dabo needs this lesson. Hubris in everything our staff does. Running their mouths. Giving minutes to your sons. Thinking you can just develop entire classfulls of project players instead of getting the talented depth you need to compete. That "Clemson culture" crap. All of it.
I have gone from not being worried to being pretty concerned
More alcohol is needed
This was at halftime when this person's favorite team had just surrendered 28 unanswered points.
Cheating’ ass big 10.
The season takes a toll and this is why those cheating, wife beating s***bags didn’t deserve to be there. It wasn’t earned. It was gifted.
And Dabo mentioned that. He wasn’t cocky.
Day pulling a Dabo is what this is. Coming in disrespected with something to prove. Dabo came in overconfident, lost his edge.
Also, I honestly think we’re seeing the end of elite Clemson. No offensive line development and no defensive line development despite all the stars.
Ryan Day is stealing our defensive signals
The irony here.
This is the worse this defense has looked since WVU. 2 games in a row we have been completely dominated in the CFP.
Time to look in the mirror at what we are doing wrong at this point.
Maybe playing a whole season instead of a half season makes a difference....
4 min left in the 3rd Quarter and OSU has 548 total yards and 42 points. The f****** Rutgers D is tougher than ours.
yeah i'm just going to take some time away from football for a little while after this extreme s***show
Dabo getting his ass handed to him by one of the most smug douches of all time
But it won’t change anything. Not elite anymore. They are the East Coast Oklahoma.
Imagine saying this when your team is coached by Dabo.
Dear Dabo
The team that looked like they didn’t belong in the playoff was yours.
Woefully underprepared, outcoached, outplayed in all aspects.
At least it was a mercy killing because Alabama would put up 70.
Hate to see Trevor go out this way
Dabo needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.
If you’re about to play a team in a playoff game don’t rank them so far down. I don’t care if they’ve played 1 game or 100. You know that only gave them more motivation.
Cheers Clemson fans. Thanks for making this victory this much sweeter.
Michigan Sadness
Michigan fans didn't have anything to watch this postseason because, uh...
// gestures at Jim Harbuagh //
So instead, they decided to join forces with Clemson for one night and root for the Tigers. The game thread on MGoBlog was simply prefaced with this:
Happy New Year, everyone.
Here's to Clemson putting a(nother) beating on blOSU
"blOSU." It's embarrassing I've never seen or heard that before. Anyway, to the comments!
I despise both teams and hope this is a miserable game and they have 20 overtimes with a meteor strike ending the game
Nobody sincerely cheers for their conference.
Ohio State can suffer yet another pantsing at the hands of Clemson and I'll be pleased, quite frankly.
I want OSU to win. I want them to be the top team in the country. Then I want M to make the right hire and make the decision to play with the big boys. And when we beat OSU and compete in a yearly basis with them.....they will talk about the Big Ten like they do the SEC.
Good to see the delusion is still there.
I want 59-0
This was a comment made after Clemson took a 7-0 lead.
I very much enjoyed that opening drive!
Are you all prepared for the best comment in this post. I would've saved it for last, but the context that this came with Clemson leading is important. Okay, here you go.
I became a Clemson fan a little over a year ago. Many of you ridiculed me, but it is what it is. Glad I made that choice. I still root for Michigan, but Clemson is how I roll. I like winning and I don't know that I would see that if I hadn't jumped on the Clemson Bandwagon.
I need a scientist to figure out a way to liquefy this comment so I can take a bubble bath in it.
There was a followup comment that was nearly as good.
There was a time when I would have thought that way. I went all in, bought some gear and I love how Osu fans get sad when they see me in it. It is also nice to know my team has a 50/50 or better chance at beating Osu.
"My team." Amazing. Ohio State truly broke Michigan fans.
Clemsons offense and play calls are a thing of beauty. It is frustrating to watch these two offenses operate so smoothly. A QB making correct reads and consistently making accurate throws sure make a huge difference. Also, an OL that creates holes helps too. Siiiigh.
Can we just learn the Clemson offense and run that all the time?
Well in the last three games against Ohio State, Clemson has scored 31, 29 and 28 points. None of those outputs are beating the Buckeyes with the defense Michigan has fielded the last few years.
Better get comfy. We're gonna be here for a while tonight.
Watching competent aggressive football makes me sick and angry
Maybe dabo shouldn’t have ran his mouth so damn much...
Yeah maybe.
FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU.....
I can go to bed early. Clemson has not come to play. I hate watching college football. It just shows me how fucked up Harbaugh has got our program. Not even looking forward to next year. If he is still there it will be the same shit show as the last 3 years.
Guys, I think we might have dodged a bullet when the OSU game was called off.
If anyone thinks Michigan can ever match what Alabama, OSU and Clemson have done year after year in recruiting, they’re dreaming.
OSU in yet another NC game will only help their out-of-region recruiting even more, and hurt our diminishing ability to "compete on the same level as OSU".
My goodness. The difference between this osu team and a Harbaugh team is insane. More insane than usual.
The gap between Michigan and OSU is bigger now than it was when Hoke was fired. Never thought that would be physically possible when Harbaugh was hired.
It’s going to be a long, long, LONG time before Michigan beats OSU on the football field again.
Oh, the misery is so thick.
Yeah, they’d have put up 100 on us no problem.
Clemson is in deep doo-doo.
I suspect that we're not going to like what happens next.
This is depressing. OSU is murdering them. They are playing at such a high level, and looking at their recruiting, they will be at this level for the foreseeable future.
WTF are we doing? Why is Harbaugh still the f****** coach after this abomination of a team in his 6TH YEAR?! Why the f*** is being Michigan fan this difficult?!
Original Comment:
OK, we pointlessly do this every year, but I'm going to do it again anyway:
Are any of Fields, Olave, and Sermon going to be back next year?
First Response
No, but they have that 235 pound running back who just f****** ran over clemsons safety
I'd like to blow some of these comments up and have them rotationally framed over my fireplace.
That game did have a very Michigan osu feel to it. So we really were all tigers tonight.
Here's to hoping we're doing the same thing with Alabama and Michigan fans next week.
