Cait Craft's Ohio State career has come to an unfortunate and unexpected close. The senior captain broke her left hand in practice and has been ruled out for the remainder of the NCAA Tournament.
The full Ohio State release:
Ohio State senior guard Cait Craft suffered a broken bone in her left hand in practice this week and will miss the remainder of the NCAA Tournament.
The senior captain from Findlay, Ohio, had started the last 102 games in which she’s played over the last three seasons. She missed one game earlier this season with a sore foot.
Craft averaged 4.6 points and dished-out 60 assists in 25.5 minutes per game this season. For her career, she averaged 6.4 points per game and is 11th in school-history with 135 career three-point field goals.
This is an enormous blow for an already depleted and banged up Buckeye backcourt as they head into Friday night's Sweet 16 match-up with Tennessee. Kianna Holland has been sidelined the majority of the season with soreness in her surgically repaired knee while freshman guard Kaylan Pugh transferred from the team in November.
In addition, senior guard Ameryst Alston is still not 100 percent after injuring her wrist in the Big Ten Tournament over two weeks ago. Friday, she'll not only be asked to play, she'll be relied upon for heavy minutes and huge contributions.
Ohio State plays No. 7 seed Tennessee Friday at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
