Kianna Holland's Ohio State playing career has officially come to a close as the school announced that due to multiple injuries, the guard is no longer able to compete athletically for the Buckeyes, but she will remain at the school and with the program.
After transferring to Ohio State from Duke in 2014, Holland suffered an ACL injury in October of 2014 which caused her to miss the entire 2014-15 season. She began the 2015-16 season healthy and was even named a captain before the start of the season, but three games into the season she suffered another knee injury. Holland fought through three more surgeries over the past two years, but was unable to return to the court.
Though her playing career is over, Holland will remain at Ohio State as she's enrolled in the school's Sport Management graduate program this coming fall, and she plans to be an integral part of the women's basketball program.
"Kianna has worked really hard these past couple of years to put herself in a position to be a great basketball player and I was looking forward to her contributions on the court but I am excited that she is going to continue to be a part of this program," Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff said in a release. "She is an extremely positive person and a tremendous teammate and I look forward to her having a positive impact on the team."
The Buckeyes begin the 2017-18 season on November 10th in St. John Arena against powerhouse Stanford as they begin their push to the Final Four, which will be held in Columbus in April.
