The word 'extravaganza' is often used in cheesy commercials or sarcastically about something that's not all that great. But if this episode of The Eleven Dubcast doesn't qualify, then maybe we just can't achieve that level.
Not to worry. This is a show worthy of the first episode after crushing Wisconsin into dust for Urban Meyer's first Big Ten championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Johnny and I broke down that game, by the way, but then we are quickly dwarfed by a stunning procession of guests, kicked off, of course, by our good friend Matt Finkes.
Matt's "Finkes on Football" segment gets into the nuts and bolts of the big win Saturday night and breaks down the playoff selection process. He even talks a little bit about what to expect against Alabama.
Then we're joined by a pair of Buckeye parents. Ezekiel Elliott's father Stacy, once a fine college football player in his own right, stops by to talk about his relationship with Urban Meyer and the Ohio State program. Then Annie Apple, mom of Eli, drops in to discuss how tough it is for parents of players to travel around the country on their own dime while the NCAA fat cats get fatter off the sweat of their children.
A lot of you are looking for those last minute Christmas gifts this time of year. Our special guest Roy Roychoudhury is an Ohio State alum and 11W commenter who has written two historical Buckeye football-themed children's books. He tells us how he came to write them, where to buy them, and how you can get them at a discount (spoiler: coupon code is 11W2X) just for being 11W readers.
And we didn't forget your Ask Us Anything questions, which you can always send to us at dubcast@elevenwarriors.com or on the Dubcast Twitter account.
If this podcast were a football team, it would win its championship game by a score of 59-0. But all this extra content is yours at no added cost to you!
This is what happened:
0:00- Johnny and I get right into the B1G title game. We name our top players of the game and just generally talk about how awesome it was to completely destroy Wisconsin.
14:17- Finkes on Football has his take on the big B1G game, as well as the college football playoff and what we might expect against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
33:05- Stacy Elliott talks about his and his son's very different recruiting situations, how he has come to respect Urban Meyer's mission at Ohio State and more.
52:26- Annie Apple tells us what it was like to be in Indy on Saturday and talks about the hardship and expense involved in trying to travel around the country to support your son.
1:08:27- Roy Roychoudhury gives us the background story on his children's books, The Buckeye Block Party and The Day I Met Woody, and he's got a discount for you, 11W Nation.
1:21:00- Ask Us Anything wants to know...Mexican or BBQ? Also, when is it OK to shrug? (Always, as long as you've done something awesome and Bosa-esque.)
That's more than enough for this week! Join us next time as we turn our attention toward the Sugar Bowl and our pretty darn good hoops team.
