It was certainly one exciting weekend for the Ohio State sports community. While we were busy watching our No. 2 ranked football team battle with the Sooners, the world of non-revenue sports was still turning.

Women's volleyball goes undefeated in ball state active ankle challenge

The Ohio State women's volleyball team traveled to Muncie, Indiana for the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge this weekend for its final non-conference competition. The Buckeyes finished the weekend 3-0, defeating Valparaiso, UNCG, and Ball State all in three set sweeps. The Buckeyes were dominant at this tournament, outscoring their opponents by 85 total points. After the weekend, the team is now 10-2 and ranked No. 19 in the country.

Valeria Leon, MVP of the weekend, Taylor Sandbothe, and Audra Appold each received all-tournament team accolades. Leon averaged 3.78 digs in each set of the nine sets played this weekend. Seniors Leon and Sandbothe have had an extremely impressive non-conference season, each making all-tournament honors in three of the four tournaments they have played. They are both set to make Ohio State history this season, Leon for most career digs and Sandbothe for most career blocks.

Next, the Buckeyes will take on the toughest volleyball conference in the nation, the Big Ten. Their first match ups will be on the road September 23-24 against Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Men's soccer defeats the scarlet knights

After a rocky start to the season, the men's soccer team is off to a good start in conference play. The defending Big Ten champions took a loss to Penn State earlier in the week but came back to defeat Rutgers 3-1 this weekend. Nate Kohl, Austin Bergstrom, and Abdi Mohamed racked up three goals for the Buckeyes in the victory over Rutgers.

The Buckeyes got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the first half. Kohl scored first for Ohio State off of an assist from senior forward Danny Jensen. Bergstrom then converted a penalty kick to put Ohio State up 2-0 going into half-time. Mohamed then scored one more goal for the Buckeyes to secure the 3-1 victory.

The men's soccer team is now 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The team will have a short break from Big Ten competition this week as they face Valparaiso and Bowling Green. On Wednesday, the team will host the 15 annual Connor Sen Memorial Game at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to raise awareness of cardiac arrest.
