The Hurry Up is your nightcap of Ohio State recruiting news, catching you up on the day’s events with an ear on the ground for what’s next.
HAYES IS THE WEEKEND'S LONE OFFICIAL VISITOR
We're two weeks away from the big recruiting weekend against Michigan State, but the Buckeyes have a night game at home this weekend and it's a great opportunity to showcase the program for the recruits that will be in town.
Ohio State has only one official visitor this weekend and that's Ann Arbor Skyline linebacker Daelin Hayes, the former USC commit who has been thought to be a Notre Dame lean. Hayes, a 6-foot-4, 235-pounder in the middle, has had a tumultuous high school career, he's played at three different high schools (including a move to California) and hasn't had a chance to ever really settle in where he's been. That said, his talent is off the charts and makes him an undeniably intriguing prospect. That's why Ohio State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, LSU, and Oregon sit among the schools chasing him.
He will arrive at Ohio State Friday evening and have both parents in tow, a huge bonus for the Buckeyes and a surefire sign that this trip is being made with a purpose. Hayes is an early enrollee and a college decision will be made as quickly as possible so the family is doing everything in their power to see the schools of interest as thoroughly as possible.
While the Irish have been the perceived frontrunner since his early October decommitment, don't count the Buckeyes out here. Ohio State's recent recommitment to adding another linebacker to their 2016 class will certainly be impressed upon Hayes and his family this weekend.
DORN CLOSE TO BLOWING UP
This past Sunday, the Buckeyes offered a new 2016 defensive back, North Carolina's Myles Dorn, and he has now set a date for his first visit – an official – to Ohio State.
Dorn, who's also recently been offered by Clemson (he will visit the Tigers this weekend), will come north to Ohio for the Nov. 21 showdown against Michigan State.
The Buckeyes' pursuit of Damar Hamlin and Jordan Fuller feels less than steady, and that may have been the driving force behind the offer to Dorn, but he's not a slouch by any means. North Carolina State (where his brother plays basketball) may be in the driver's seat at present but it's going to be difficult for any player – even one from North Carolina – to turn down a football program like Ohio State or Clemson. My gut feeling is that those are the two schools that could eventually battle here.
KELLY-POWELL/THOMAS EXPECTED IN COLUMBUS
For the second time in a month, Detroit Cass Tech 2017 defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell will be in Columbus to check out the Buckeyes, time permitting.
"Ambry (Thomas) and I are heading down after my playoff game," Kelly-Powell told Eleven Warriors. "We play Detroit Fordson at 1 p.m. and are leaving straight from the game."
Ambry Thomas and Kelly-Powell, despite being on-field rivals (Thomas stars at Martin Luther King), are cousins; each has an Ohio State offer. Thomas is a four-star prospect, ranked as the country's 12th-best 2017 cornerback.
Kelly-Powell visited Ohio State in October for their night game against Penn State and told 11W that he also intends on visiting Nov. 21, which would be three visits in just over a month's time.
Interesting, no?
GRIMES VIDEO SHOWCASES SPECIAL TALENT
You want to see what the nation's No. 1 wide receiver is supposed to look like? Take a look at this recent highlight tape of the country's best 2017, Trevon Grimes.
It's preeettty easy to see why he's Ohio State's top target at the position for 2017. The question for some time has been "when will he commit" but right now it's just important for the Buckeyes to get him back on campus sometime soon. He's been rumored as a visitor on Nov. 21 but that has not yet been confirmed.
