Well, we were all pretty wrong when it came to predicting the 2007 Buckeye football captains. The thinking was that whoever accompanied The Vest to the Big Ten media event in Chicago would stand a very high chance of being named a captain based on previous seasons. Kirk Barton, Marcus Freeman and Vernon Gholston accompanied Tressel to Chicago, but only one of the three was named a captain for the 2007 season -- Barton.
Joining Barton as captains are senior fullback Dionte Johnson and junior linebacker James Laurinaitis. We're thrilled to see Pepper's boy named a captain and we think Laurinaitis will fill the role admirably, but we're given a little pause because the last time Ohio State named a junior captain was in 2000 when quarterback Steve Bellasari was named a captain and we all remember how that season ended.
Evidently, because of how close the voting was on defense, a 4th captain from the defensive side of the ball will be chosen on a per-game basis. If it's not the Gun Show at least half of the season, then there's no justice in this world.

Elsewhere, a pretty connected Buckeye photoblogger has some great photos of the open practice that were up on his blog just a short while after Thursday's practice ended.
