It's a story as old as The Rivalry itself: Michigan enlisted an Ohio man for help with its football team.
Jim Harbaugh was born in Toledo. (Six months apart from Urban Meyer, according to legend.) Harbaugh's DC ― officially announced today — former Florida defensive coordinator, D.J. Durkin, was born in Youngstown.
Durkin was long to be Harbaugh's guy, and reportedly shunned other off-season offers as he awaited Harbaugh's divorce from the 49ers.
For more info on Durkin, That Blog Up North has a two part series (part 1; part 2) on his scheme. He is a fierce recruiter with deep Ohio ties.
And make no mistake: You folks who pined for a stronger Michigan are about to get your wish.
