Football is a dangerous game. The idea that someone might get severely injured, maybe permanently, is an unspoken contract that every person who plays the game mentally signs once they start playing the game. It's a contract that dictates a bet against time, and you generally just hope that you come out clean.
Some people don't.
Georgetown running back/linebacker Ty Williams suffered a broken neck in the Hoyas’ game against St. Francis (PA) and underwent surgery late Saturday, reports Mike Cornejo of MoCoFootball.com.
Williams has five broken bones in the neck/vertebrae and can’t move his legs, though he has feeling in them.
Aside from being incredibly sad, this is a reminder that sometimes a sport that we love can cause devastating effects on the people that play it for our enjoyment. All of the best to Ty Williams and his family, and we all hope for a speedy recovery. Good luck, young man.
