Embattled Texas Athletic Director Steve Patterson is believed to be relieved of his duties sometime Tuesday morning, putting to bed a pretty horrible tenure atop of the the largest athletic departments in the country to say the least.
From hookem.com:
University of Texas President Gregory L. Fenves is expected to fire embattled athletic director Steve Patterson, and the move could come this morning, a Houston-based source with knowledge of the situation told the American-Statesman.
Fenves and Patterson are meeting Tuesday morning, the Statesman learned.
It could bring an end to a tumultuous 22-month journey for the athletic department during which fans grew outraged over higher ticket prices and Patterson battled the perception that his cool demeanor simply does not fit UT’s style.
When Patterson lost the confidence of his coaches, the Houston source said, that proved to be the last straw.
According to hookem.com's source, the man Fenves picked to become interim athletic director is ex-Texas linebacker Mike Perrin. Former Longhorn head coach Mack Brown was also being considered. Fenves was reportedly weighing his options Monday after coming off a 6-7 season and an ugly 36-28 record over the last five years.
The fans made their feelings known Saturday during Texas' 42-28 victory against Rice, and it appears Fenves listened.
Clearly, Patterson hardly learned a darn thing from ex-Michigan AD Dave Brandon. Patterson was hired in November 2013, while Brandon was brought on in Ann Arbor in January 2010 before resigning on Halloween 2014. Takes some skill to get pushed out that quick.
