Maryland football is in need of a coach. D.J. Durkin, despite his poor choices in employers, is a fast-rising and young defensive-minded coach.

1+1=2?

From yahoo.com:

Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacant Maryland head-coaching job, multiple sources have told Yahoo Sports.

[...]

Michigan’s defense has been vastly improved this season under Durkin, his first year in Ann Arbor as part of Jim Harbaugh's staff. The Wolverines are allowing just 14.9 points per game (down from 22.4 last year) and 263 yards per game (down from 311 last year). Michigan plays Ohio State in the annual rivalry showdown game Saturday to end the regular season.

Losing Durkin, especially after one season, would be a blow. And despite Maryland's lack of historical success, it's still an intriguing job with the potential to be a great job with the continued infusion of UnderArmour money.

He could also just be in search of a raise. (Durkin currently makes $800,000 a year and is in the first year of a three-year contract.)

We'll see what happens.
