Well, South Carolina actually did it. After reportedly getting turned down by Rich Rodriguez, it hired Will Muschamp, the good defensive coordinator but bad head coach.
It sounds like it was quite the manhunt.
Here's South Carolina president Harris Pastides at Champ's introductory presser, via al.com:
"Welcome to a new era of University of South Carolina Gamecock football."
-- Of Muschamp's family, "They were all meant to be Gamecocks."
-- Likes how Muschamp is "spelled with USC-champ"
There you have it, folks. It's a new era in South Carolina. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.
The first glimpse of the new-look Cocks will be Sept. 1, 2016 in a classic SEC tilt against perennial power Vanderbilt. Until then, the heir to the Ol' Ball Coach's throne has a message for his doubters:
Muschamp's wife stands up, Champ: "If you don't think I can recruit look at her and look at me. Selling ice to an Eskimo."
