Stop us if you've heard this one before. Mount Union puts on pads and three months later, wins a national championship.
The Purple Raiders won a record 12th NCAA championship Friday night, topping St. Thomas (Minn.) 49–35 in the Division III title game. It was Mount Union's 11th-consecutive appearance in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
Quarterback Taurice Scott threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to hand Vince Kehres his first national championship as head coach after his father, Larry, led the Purple Raiders to their first 11 titles.
