A week ago, Urban Meyer admitted to "looking into" spring practices in Florida. This week, however, he and Gene Smith walked back on that idea. Smith, speaking broadly, said the move would make sense if Ohio State was trying to jumpstart its program.
Smith didn't mean it as a potshot towards Michigan, but this is The Rivalry, which never takes a day off. It didn't take long for Smith's words to reach Jim Harbaugh, who reacted like a man who is 100% secure with himself:
Good to see Director Smith being relevant again after the tattoo fiasco. Welcome back!

This threw Gene Smith into Real Serious Adult Mode, because Gene Smith is a serious adult. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel is also a serious adult, and he reacted as such during a Thursday morning press conference:
Warde Manuel said he had a 'brief' and 'great' conversation with Gene Smith the other day. They're pals. No harm done.

Manuel:"Obviously we dont believe were jump-starting anything in football.' in "general context I understood what he was trying to convey"

Manuel calls the situation a "one and done". Said he spoke briefly to Harbaugh.

Only 246 days between now and The Game. Jim Harbaugh is 0-1 against Ohio State as a head coach.
