Wisconsin will not play a spring football game this year.
The Badgers' annual spring game, which was set to be played on Friday night, has been canceled due to a "strong chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms on Friday during the late afternoon and evening," according to a Tuesday release by Wisconsin's athletic department.
"The safety of our student-athletes and fans is our utmost priority," Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said. "The weather forecast has been pretty consistent in calling for a good chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday. We thought it was best to make the call early to give the numerous groups involved in the game, including our team, our fans, our media partners and staff, notice of the cancellation as soon as possible."
Even though Wisconsin is already set to continue spring practices next week – while most schools conclude their spring with the playing of the spring game, the Badgers were still scheduled to have three more practices after Friday – the spring game will not be rescheduled, as the reigning Big Ten West champions will hold an indoor practice on Friday instead.
