A playoff contender looks to be without its starting quarterback this weekend as multiple outlets have reported that Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will not play this week against Florida State.
From Irish Sports Daily, who broke the news:
The Irish will face another hurdle this weekend as starting quarterback Ian Book will be out for Saturday’s game against Florida State, according to multiple sources,
The 6-foot, 203-pounder suffered multiple injuries to his midsection during this past week's game at Northwestern, which will prevent him from playing in Saturday’s game.
...
Brandon Wimbush, who began the year as the starter, will step back into the spotlight as QB1 at Notre Dame after leading the Irish to three straight victories to begin the season.
In his three starts this season, Wimbush completed just 55.3 percent of his passes for 589 yards with just one touchdown to his four interceptions. Now, he retakes the reins of the No. 3 team in the College Football Playoff rankings.
While the timetable for Book's return is unknown, Irish Sports Daily said "there's some hope" he will be able to play in next week's matchup against No. 13 Syracuse in Yankee Stadium.
