Chris Ash, fired after 3.5 seasons at the helm of the Rutgers football program, is headed to Texas to serve as Tom Herman's defensive coordinator, per a 247 report.
Ash went 8-32 at Rutgers after a successful two-year stint as Urban Meyer's co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Herman ran the offense and Ash called the defense as Ohio State captured the 2014 national title.
Ash is no stranger to Texas having served as an analyst for the last half of the season following his merciful ouster at Rutgers.
Horns247 sources indicate Ash will not be announced until after national signing day.
The Longhorns defense struggled mightily this year prompting Herman to fire Todd Orlando. Texas's defense is giving up almost 29 points a game, ranks 127th out of 130 teams in passing yards allowed per game and 108th in total defense.
