Jimbo Fisher hasn't been able to best Nick Saban since his arrival in College Station – or before that, for that matter – and it seems the locals are getting a little restless.
Speaking at an event by the Touchdown Club of Houston, a fan asked Fisher a simple question: What’s the key, other than Saban retiring, to beating Alabama?”
And Jimbo had an equally simple, yet quite a bit more headline-worthy response: “We’re going to beat his ass even when he’s there.”
“I don’t want him to retire,” Fisher continued, according to the Houston Chronicle. “They’ve got a great team and I respect him. We’ve known each other forever.”
It's a good quote and some admirable confidence, but there's not much evidence to back it up. Saban is a perfect 4-0 against Fisher in his lifetime, outscoring him by an average score of 36-19.
History isn't on Jimbo's side, either, as Saban has never lost to a single one of his former assistants, posting a perfect 23-0 record against them, winning each game by an average score of 43-17.
But that's not stopping Fisher from being confident – at least outwardly.
“We can do it just as good and be just as good or better, and we will,” Fisher said. “We’re going to get there.”
Saban was unfazed when he was asked about Fisher's comments on Thursday.
"In golf?" *laughs* "Is that what he was talking about? In football?
