Michigan is losing its new co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach less than four months after hiring him.
Maurice Linguist, who was hired by Michigan in January as part of its coaching staff restructuring, is leaving Ann Arbor to become the new head coach at Buffalo, who announced his hiring on Friday night.

Linguist, who was the cornerbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys last season before joining Jim Harbaugh's staff, was previously the defensive backs coach at Buffalo in 2012-13.
Beyond creating a hole on Michigan's defensive coaching staff, Linguist's departure could also have an impact on the Wolverines' recruiting. Linguist was the lead recruiter for five-star cornerback Will Johnson, who committed to Michigan over Ohio State and USC in February.
According to The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner, Michigan is expected to target Kentucky defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Steven Clinkscale as Linguist's replacement.
