Legendary Ohio Bobcats Coach Frank Solich Retires Due to Health Concerns

College football is losing a legend this season as longtime Ohio Bobcats head coach Frank Solich announced his retirement due to health concerns on Wednesday morning.

Solich retires after 16 seasons with the Bobcats and 55 total years in coaching. At 76 years old, Solich was the oldest active coach in the FBS. He retires as the winningest coach in MAC football history.

"After fifty-five years in coaching, including 16 at Ohio University, it is time for me to step away to focus on a cardiovascular health issue," Solich said. "I've appreciated the support of Bobcat fans over the years, and I know they will continue to support Coach Albin. After working directly with Tim for 21 consecutive years, including six at the University of Nebraska, it's clear to me he is prepared to continue our work and move the program forward. I am happy for Tim and his family."

Solich leaves coaching with a 173-101 overall, which ranks him record ranks fourth among active NCAA FBS coaches. His 115 victories at Ohio make him the winningest coach in MAC history.
